Monticello High School: Providing Opportunities for Students and Fans

Monticello High School: Providing Opportunities for Students and Fans

When asked about his favorite moment as an athletic director, Matthew Pearman struggled to pinpoint just one. He emphasized the significance of helping students overcome challenges.

“That’s a great question because those moments happen so often,” Pearman said. “Those special moments are when you see a student who has struggled at something... and then they see that through as a success in a competition due to their hard work.”

He also pointed out that giving students opportunities to compete in the sports they love is especially rewarding. Pearman has been the Athletic Director at Monticello High School in Charlottesville, Virginia for ten years. In that time, he has improved fan engagement and support for students with digital ticketing and streaming.

Monticello High School has used GoFan for digital ticketing for over three years. The Monticello community appreciates the ease and convenience of getting tickets online in advance or at the gate.

“It’s provided a great option for our community to be able to purchase tickets to athletic events in a variety of ways that are convenient for each individual family.” said Pearman.

Even the most devoted fans can’t make it to every Monticello game in person. The Monticello fan base can watch their favorite teams live and on demand with the NFHS Network. The option to stream events is particularly impactful for parents who need to work in the evenings and grandparents who live out of state.

“Being able to live stream these events whether it’s a parent who had to work late and couldn’t make an event or whether it’s grandma that lives 2,000 miles away... there’s a lot of fantastic uses for the Network,” Pearman said.

Pearman also appreciates the strong partnerships that the NFHS Network has built with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA), as these organizations have a profound impact on the administration of the Monticello High School athletic programs.

Along with these partnerships, Pearson praises the accessibility of the NFHS Network compared to other streaming services, stating, "The NFHS Network has provided a convenient, comfortable, affordable way for families and students to access film of their games with minimal input on the school side."
