As the Athletic Director at Bethune-Bowman Middle/High School in Rowesville, South Carolina, Fred Styles enjoys supporting the development of young student-athletes and seeing them succeed.
“I really enjoy the students,” Styles said. “The interaction with the students, watching them grow from 6th grade to graduation… I just enjoy being around the students.”
With both middle and high school sports to manage, Styles was looking for a way to elevate his program and showcase all the talented student-athletes at Bethune-Bowman to a wider audience. He discovered the NFHS Network and began streaming middle and high school athletic events.
“It gives us an opportunity to get our kids out past our community because you can stream it,” Styles said. “You make connections with others, you tell others about the program.”
Styles also added that the NFHS Network allows students to relive moments in their athletic careers by re-watching the on-demand events.
While reaching viewers who may live further away is important for Styles, he also appreciates the flexibility that the NFHS Network provides for local working parents and family members who may not be able to attend every event in person.
“Some of the community members are older and so they come to some games, but there are some games during the week on Tuesdays where they have to work, and they say, ‘I’m glad you had that game on because I was able to catch it. I wouldn't have been able to catch it because I was working,’” Styles said.
